“Dare to declare who you are. It is not far from the shores of silence to the boundaries of speech. The path is not long. But the way is deep. You must not only walk there. You must be prepared to leap.”
—St. Hildegard Von Bingen

What You Can Expect
Breaking the Silence Together
Sometimes the silence of untold stories can only be broken before a community of compassionate, attentive, and present people who are able to see you and love you beneath the hurt you’ve held close for so long. Shame melts away through the delight and affirmation of a group united in curiosity and kindness.
Growing in Honesty and Freedom
Collectively, we grow in capacity to tell the truth, to hold the beauty and the brokenness together. As we explore a more honest version of our stories we begin to discover who we really are. And this allows us to be free to become more fully who we were created to be and to reveal to the world a gospel narrative only your story can tell. Group size averages between 4–6 participants.
Journeying Side by Side
Storygroups are meant to meet you along the way. This is a Road to Emmaus experience (see Luke 22), where I, as a facilitator, come alongside a small group who are prepared to journey together through a process of vulnerable, trust-based, sharing and listening. As facilitator, I share my story first. By letting my armor down, it allows everyone to feel safe and helps to put the group at ease, showing them what to expect when it comes time for them to read their story.
Stepping In With Care
Prior to storygroup sessions, guidelines will be made available to present expectations for how we can each show up for each other in a spirit of curiosity and compassion during times of intensive sharing. It is not good for man or woman to be alone; and sometimes we must take the leap towards healing together.
A Safe and Structured Process
Storygroup cohorts work best in the framework of in-person or virtual meetings facilitated over 10 weekly 2-hour sessions. These group sessions will involve personally crafting and sharing our stories in community. The main focus of the storygroup session is to provide a communal space where we can each learn how to receive, grieve, and love one another in some of our deepest and darkest parts. Our time together will be a combination of both teaching/education and story sharing.
